About Duck by Duck

The founder

Naomi Shiels built Duck by Duck. Before this she was a lawyer, served in the Australian Defence Force, wrote seven books, and raised children, which between them involve more paperwork than any one person should ever be handed. The program exists because she kept watching capable adults carry the same invisible load: the will nobody can find, the accounts nobody else knows about, the folder that only exists in one person’s head.

Her sentence from the Bus File module says it plainest: “The gap between people who look organised and people who are organised is enormous, and it only becomes visible at the worst possible moment, to the people who love them most.”

The method

Ten modules, two wings. The Get Sorted wing is the one-off admin done once and done properly: your Bus File, legal documents, money map, digital cleanup, and the paperwork of your home. The Run Your Life wing is the systems that keep it done: your calendar, paper flow, loyalty points, an AI assistant with house rules, and the restart layer for when life knocks a system over.

Every module is broken into ducklings: small, checkable steps toward a real artefact, a folder your family could actually find, a money map on one page, a password manager doing its job. Finish the last duckling and the duck stands up on your dashboard. Ten ducks, all countable.

What we believe

• You are not lazy and you are not behind. Nobody ever taught you this. Organisation is a skill, learned duckling by duckling.

Where the edges are

Duck by Duck is education, not legal, financial, medical or therapeutic advice. The modules that touch wills, powers of attorney and money say so plainly, and they end by pointing you at the right professional, prepared and organised, instead of pretending you do not need one.
